Pokemon News Issue #106
Welcome back to another exciting issue of Pokemon News. Fresh off of the news dump that we had last week, we now have some more stuff that was revealed this week, involving the Ultra Beasts, new evolutions, and where the anime is heading next. (Spoiler Alert, its Alola.) Let’s get right into it shall we?
Pokemon officially revealed, thanks to a recent leak from CoroCoro, two more Ultra Beasts to join UB-01. First up, we have UB-02 Expansion.
That is one buff-looking mosquito right there.
The extent of its strength is unknown. Its entire body is covered with bulging, powerful muscles. The full force of a punch powered by these muscles would be off the charts! Its distinctively long mouth is said to be harder than diamonds. Could the Ultra Beast also use it to attack?
I’m guessing it “might” use it to attack.
The other Ultra Beast that was revealed has a similar name, but a vastly different appearance. Say hello to UB-02 Beauty.
These Ultra Beasts are really starting to mess with my head.
Its narrow, graceful legs allow it to accelerate with such explosive speed that people claim it can dodge lightning! It is said that any Pokémon that sees UB-02 Beauty, regardless of its own gender, will become infatuated with it and lose the will to battle. The exact reason for this reaction—whether it’s an unidentified pheromone exuded by UB-02 Beauty or a hypnotic effect induced by its appearance—has not been determined.
It has been confirmed that Expansion will be in Pokemon Sun and Beauty will be in Pokemon Moon, adding more to the differences in the versions than just the time.
And while we are on the subject of Ultra Beasts, I’ll just leave this right here….
Let the theorizing commence.
But enough about Ultra Beasts, how about some new evolutions. Turns out a branched evolution was Rockruff’s secret all along. Allow me to introduce you to Lugarugan, the evolved form of Rockruff.
Once again, we have another difference between Sun and Moon. The red version is Lugarugan’s midnight form and is exclusive to Moon, while the other is the midday form and is exclusive to Sun. The Midday form has been confirmed to know a priority move called Accelrock.
Another really cool announce that was made this week is a followup to the Pokemon Origins anime special that aired back before Pokemon X and Y were released. This mini series is called “Pokemon Generations”
Generations will be highlighting various iconic moments from the Pokemon series from different angles, such as Blue’s climb to the Kanto Pokemon League, to Looker’s investigations on Team Plasma. I personally can’t wait to see what adventures will be covered in this special, which will begin airing as of this news issue and continue to up until Sun and Moon’s release.
But what is the official Pokemon anime planning for Sun and Moon? What will Ash and Pikachu do in Alola? Well its quite simple. They are going to school.
I kid you not. The central premise of “Pokemon: Sun and Moon” is that Ash is going to school in Alola in hopes of graduating. The anime itself has more or less confirmed that Gen 7 will have no gyms in its region, going instead for the Island Trials and desk work. Based on the trailer for the anime, it is also being very experimental, boasting a new animation style that sort of reminds me of Studio Ghibli movies. All in all, I am very interested in where the anime is going. And also, Team Rocket having to deal with Bewear and Mimikyu is just great.
And that’s it for Pokemon News for now. Can’t wait to see what other surprises Gen 7 has up its sleeves. Until then, see you guys next issue.
