Pokemon News Issue #143
Welcome back to Pokemon News here on PUCL. Its been awhile since the last issue, cuz of….well….no news. But now we’ve got a few things to discuss. Most of it comes from Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, so let’s dive straight in.
Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee were recently shown on the Japanese variety show “Pokénchi”, which showcased a lot of new moves and mechanics in the games.
First up, both Pikachu and Eevee received a number of new moves. Pikachu knows two new moves. The first is called “Pika Papow”, which is essentially an electric typed Return, with damage increasing the higher Pikachu’s friendship level is. “Splishy Splash” is Pikachu’s other new move, which is water typed and has Pikachu once again riding on his iconic surfboard. The interesting part of this move is that despite it being a water move, Splishy Splash has the potential to paralyze its target.
Eevee received four new moves, each typed after its three Kanto evolutions, since it can’t evolve. The first move is called “Buzzy Buzz”, which is electric and has the potential to paralyze. The second is “Bouncy Bubble”, which is water typed and heals 50% of damage inflicted on Eevee. The third move is “Sizzly Slide”, which is fire typed and will always burn its target. Eevee’s final new move is “Veevee Volley”, which is normal typed. Like “Pika Papow”, damage is based on Eevee’s friendship level.
Aside from the new moves, both Pikachu and Eevee have access to new abilities called “Special Techniques” that appear to replace certain HMs in the overworld. Only three techniques are known at this point; “Chop Down”, “Sea Skim”, and “Sky Dash” replace Cut, Surf, and Fly. Both Pikachu and Eevee use a surfboard for Sea Skim and a special balloon basket for Sky Dash.
That sums up the new additions to the Let’s Go games.
One final thing that came up recently with the anime. Aside from a time change from Thursdays to Sundays, a new arc will start soon with the Sun and Moon anime. To go along with it, a new poster for the next arc was revealed.
The poster showcases several new things coming to the anime. The most notable is an Eevee with one of the hairstyles in the Let’s Go games, tying in the upcoming Switch games with the anime. The poster also shows that Brock and Misty will be returning to some capacity in this arc. Team Rocket will also be getting a Stufful as part of their team.
And Hau is there too. He’s got a Dartrix.
And that’s it for Pokemon News. What do you think of Pikachu’s and Eevee’s new moves? Let me know in the comments below.
And with that, I’ll see you guys in the next issue.
