The Fluff: I Want a Hippopotas for Christmas

Hello, my dear PUCLonians, and welcome to the 50th installment of The Fluff! Oh, how the time flies… but, very appropriately, this article comes at a time for celebrations (doubly so for me, yay!) and I hope it will inspire festive thoughts in you all.

Last year, I wrote a (slightly late) Christmas article detailing what gifts I thought would be best for a Pokémon fan. It is still entirely relevant, so here’s a link to it. And one for the PUCL Etsy store, of course, because Green Tauros shirts are green and thus very Christmas-y!

But there are many more awesome things you can get if, like me, you know many Pokémon aficionados, and, like me, you buy your Christmas presents at the last possible second. Let’s dive in…

A nice set of badges from a person’s favorite region will make them feel fashionable and accomplished! They usually don’t cost too much and are available in good quality. And if you find a Gen V set that carries badges from both Black&White and Black2&White2, the person who receives them can have ten badges, and be as cool as Gary Oak, or, even better, as someone who beat every Gym Leader in our Summer League!

It’s a pity that they won’t be able to make one of those sets for Alola.

Oh, I know, Whimsicott, I realized that today and I was pretty sad. I suppose the equivalent would be the Z-bracelet? But it’s not nearly as sleek.

The Pokémon Manga

As we all know, Pokémon Adventures is awesome. Box sets are currently on sale on Amazon, and if you know someone who enjoys the manga but does not own it, or someone who you think should absolutely read it (even just so you can discuss it together!), it’s certainly a gift to consider.

Uhm. I hear Wallace has a girlfriend in this, and that said girlfriend is not Steven.

It’s still an amazing manga, especially the Ruby and Sapphire chapter! Also, he had a girlfriend. So everyone can totally enjoy this.

Who’s your favorite character?

Ruby and Yellow. But I haven’t read up to where N appears yet, so… subject to change?

Poké Ball Bath Bombs

For the weary feet of the Pokémon Go player in your life, these colorful bath bombs can cheer up any soak. Most of them come with a tiny Pokémon figure inside… which are usually terrible knockoffs, but it’s still fun to find out which Pokémon was inside the Poké Ball when it dissolves!

Yeah, but do they smell pretty?

Well, at least one Etsy seller has type-themed scents in theirs, so yes, they will make your fluff clean and absolutely delicious-smelling… so you can finally try the full Bounsweet experience. Have fun being chased by other Pokémon who want to eat you.

Deck Boxes

If your Pokémon fan is into the TCG, a nice little gift could be a Pokémon-themed deck box! The one above is the one I own, but there are plenty of other amazing ones for sale on the Pokémon Center online store.

There’s even one with Goomy on it! But, sadly, no Whimsicott one.

That is a tragedy and a travesty, but we’ll survive. If your TCG player is all deck boxed out, new Pokémon card sleeves or even a binder could be great… from what I’ve seen, TCG players can never have too much space for their cards!

A Pokémon Mug

When you’re up late playing Pokémon Sun and Moon, you need your coffee to be super effective, right? If you know someone like that, why not add some Pokémon spice to their morning routine?

Wow, you’re totally sounding like a commercial right now.

And the Pokémon Company isn’t giving me a dime. I must be doing something wrong. Anyway, the festive mug above is currently on the Pokémon Center site, but I’ve found less official (but still great-looking) mugs at conventions or other online stores.

A Competitive Pokémon

So, maybe you’re on a tight budget, or maybe you’re already getting something else for your Pokémon fan, but you still want to give them something Pokémon-related, too… so why not an actual Pokémon? Since Sun and Moon have just come out (and the UUTC is close, if they’re a PUCLonian!), and Bank isn’t here for a while yet, many people haven’t had time to breed and train all the Pokémon they might want to use, in Singles or VGC. That’s where you can step in! Breed and EV train a Pokémon you think your recipient could use on their team, or could enjoy battling with, and trade it to them as a gift!

And you’d better make it a Whimsicott! I can provide you with excellently-IVd Cottonee, if you’d like.

Wait, Whimsicott… where would you get the eggs? Empoleon is in different Egg Groups…

Oh, honey, I didn’t say I’d make them. Hand over some Poké Balls and Berries, and leave it all to me. Alola, here I come!

Wait, so Pokémon can catch other Pokémon in Poké Balls? Whimsicott? Come back down and explain! You can’t fly that far, the wind is too cold! …Whimsicott?

Well, if a Whimsicott-shaped popsicle falls in your garden, it means your house lies directly between here and Alola. Stupid Pokémon. Anyway! Do you have any other ideas for Pokémon-themed gifts, and would you like to share them with your fellow PUCLonians? Leave them in the comment section, and I’m sure Delibird will bring you an extra treat this year.

And now, excuse me, but I have to go rescue my silly Pokémon from the cold. Have a wonderful Christmas, or whichever holiday you’re celebrating around this time!

Until next time,

The Fluffiest Whimsicott

I discovered Pokémon at 17 and never looked back (thanks, Team Rocket, for making the anime more fun and making me want to pick up the game). I'm now 31 and I'm not in the least ashamed to still love Pokémon... especially Grass types! I'm from Italy, so time zones will be a thing if we want to battle or trade. Sorry in advance. Trivia: my first Pokémon ever was a Charmander.
