ZRTFPMS #3: POKEMON GO GIT GUD
Hello Pucl hoodlums and welcome to Issue #3 of Zcron’s Random Tutorials for Pocket Monster Success, where today I’m going to educate you on how to be competent in the world of Pokemon GO. What may at first seem to be a simple mobile geo-caching app is deceptively complicated, with its own meta-game, secrets, and community. We’ll be delving into some of the finer aspects of how to make the most of YOUR Pokemon GO experience in this article.
FIVE TIPS YOU PROBABLY DON’T KNOW TO MAKE YOU BETTER AT POKEMON GO
(and if you do already know them good for you but I don’t want to hear it k thanks.)
Defending a gym for about 17 days total gets you a golden gym badge for that specific gym.
Getting a golden gym badge ensures you get extra items every time you swipe the PokeStop attached to said gym. If you do this on “First PokeStop of the day streak,” you get even more. This suggests that the extra items are based on a percentage of how many items you would normally receive from the PokeStop. So if you occupy the gym with your team color, just defeated a raid boss there, and have a golden gym badge at said gym, you could easily receive about 30-40 items on a 7 day streak. Also, golden gym badges are a cool way to show how much of your life you’ve wasted beating up Blisseys and Tyranitars. Keep in mind that “Time Defended” only updates after your Pokemon has come back from the gym.
Golden Razz Berries restore all of a Pokemon’s health if they are defending a gym.
This tip in particular is super useful if you’re trying to farm gold gym badges. When a person thinks about taking a gym, seeing a full health Blissey or Snorlax can be pretty daunting to try and take on. Of course, over time the total health depreciates to about a third of the total value, making that buff Blissey into a tiny Happiny again. However, you can feed that Blissey, even if it isn’t your Blissey, a golden razz or silver pinap berry to instantly restore all its health. If you raid a lot and have extras of these berries, this can be a good way to keep your team’s presence from being taken over by those naughty Valors ruining everyone’s fun.
Some Pokemon only appear through special research tasks.
The most notable example of this is Spinda, but others such as Sunglasses Squirtle during Community Day and Nincada in the month of November are other examples. Concerning Spindas, the pattern is always the same for one month, but the pattern does change with the month! So they are all technically different. If you take careful note of where you get research tasks, make sure to tell your friends and share the PokeLove. If you can’t seem to find the research you’re looking for, waiting until midnight resets the stop’s research so you can try again tomorrow. To quote the anime Golden Boy, “So many wonderful things to learn!”
Lucky Pokemon always have IVs of at least 12/12/12.
A lucky Pokemon is a Pokemon that costs half the stardust to power up, and a lot of people know the trick that you can get lucky Pokemon by trading to others, and furthermore you have a higher chance of getting lucky Pokemon the longer time ago it was that you caught said Pokemon. Fewer people know that whenever you trade any Pokemon its IVs (individual values that are normally unchangeable) get shuffled around. When you receive a Lucky Pokemon, each stat is guaranteed to be at least 12, where 15 is the max. This means bad Pokemon that were caught back in 2016 when you first started out can become some of the best team members for other people. Have a 300CP Snorlax you caught when the game first came out? Trade it to someone and watch its power level go over 9000.
A variety of factors influence your receiving of EX Raid Passes.
EX Raid Passes grant access to fights against the most sought-after legendary Pokemon before anyone else such as Deoxys and Mewtwo. Here’s the breakdown on how to get passes for these raids.
-Get invited by one of your ultra or best friends. That’s 3 or 4 stars, so at least 30 days of sending gifts back and forth. Make friends with lots of people in your home area if you want more passes!
The other way is to earn it. You get a chance to receive these passes every time you complete a raid at a gym. Every raid you complete in a time-frame gives you higher chances of receiving a pass. You also can only receive passes at gyms where you have completed raids in that time-frame (either a week or a month). EX Raids will only happen at gyms where a significant amount of other people have completed raids there. If there are too many people, the passes will be distributed according to who has the highest level of gym badge there (Another reason why gold gym badges are well-worth working towards in your home area).
